Q: sorry if this is a stupid question, since i know nothing about racing but i am curious. roughly speaking, which car would be fastest on an oval track? on a straight track? on an f1 track? on a windy mountain road? assume that all drivers are using perfect technique and there are no restrictions on regular parts for those vehicles (no rocket engines or jet packs), there is infinite fuel supply, and no tire wear. how much does the style of driving matter vs. the design and power of the car itself? or would they all be roughly the same?
A: before restrict or plates a nascar would top out at about 210 mph on the big super speedways, the honda f1 car topped out at around 245 mph the the salt flats last summer, so in a top speed run the f1 has it weather its a straight line or an oval as for the windy mountain road the f1 car would leave the nascar at the first turn in all aspects of performance the f1 driver and car are the best, the only exception is straight line acceleration where a funny car or top fuel dragster are the kings, as far as driving style, nascar teams sometimes bench there regular drivers on road courses to let dedicated road racing guys drive there cars so yes style does play into the factoring
