Q: I have wanted to become a race car driver since i was a lilltle kid. I am 17 and want to drive a race car on a road course track. Where can i get started? I think i have what it takes to do this, but i just dont know where to start. I cant afford the $1,200 one day race schools. Is there anyway i can ride shotgun with another driver on a course to learn the ropes, Or actually give it a shot myself somewhere? I live in chicago, is there any places around here for this type of racing? Any info would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you
A: I would spend some time autocrossing first. In SCCA it's called Solo2. This is a cheap way to start, and you will begin to learn handling limits. SCCA also has "track days" and drivers schools.
