Q: My son is taking me racing at a rental area race track. He has been racing for two years and I have never been in a go kart. How can i keep from getting lapped? Help me. Where do i brake and where do I put the petal down? When do I keep low? What is the best way to pass someone? I just want to have fun with my 20 year old son...but I do not want to be beat really badly. Thanks Thanks guys. By the way house I am the MOM not the dad. His dad ...my exhusband builds his motors and so on. I plan to have fun I will be 40 real soon and i just want to have a slight chance of impressing him.
A: OK, Wayne has been racing his whole life but doesn't know how to spell kart. Says wear sunglasses? Uh, no, you don't race a kart with anything less than a full face helmet. Anyway, first off: NEVER hit the brakes real hard. That will cause you to spin. Brake lightly and let off the throttle just before the turn, get back on it as soon as you can. Keep in mind that karts actually handle better if you're on the throttle than if you're off. Try to get back on it by 1/2 way thru the turn, if you stay on it the power will pull you through the rest of the turn and carry the speed onto the straight. Try to brake only in a straight line, not in the turns. Forget the bump drafting, if you've never driven before you'll not be able to pull that off successfully. And don't go too tight on the turns. Try to turn in kinda wide and let the kart drift to the inside. Good luck! You're gonna have a blast no matter how bad he beats you LOL
