Can testosterone help an old timer like Hornaday?

Q: So Hornaday has admitted using the hormone, and NASCAR will not punish him...but does testosterone give him an advantage? I'm not a Dr, but it seems to me that this can increase his energy level, plus give him a teenager's "I don't give a s*#t" attitude. do you have an opinion on this? or if you are a Dr. can you set me straight on this issue?

A: It really depends on what his testosterone levels were. If his levels were low because of a medical condition then the supplement could bring the levels back up to the normal range. Everyone produces testosterone even women. There is a normal range for blood levels of testosterone and it's a pretty broad range for men. The hormone isn't a miracle drug that can make someone into a teenager. One would have to know what levels of testosterone he had in his blood during the time in question to give an answer. Even if his levels were high there is no way to tell if that would affect his performance or mood.
