Q: The reason I ask this is that the big news in the past couple of days is about her 17 year old daughter who is pregnant. The daughter's name is Bristol. To me, only a die hard Nascar fan would name their daughter after a Nascar track. But, then, maybe I am wrong. Other than the Tennesse City of Bristol and the Nascar Bristol track,, does Bristol have another meaning that she and her husband could have been thinking of?
A: Bristol, Palin's oldest daughter, 17, means "meeting place by the bridge," according to thinkbabynames.com. Bristol is Old English and is the name of an important town in England, which many US cities were named after as well. It has not ranked in the top 1000 baby names in the US in the last 100 years. Bristol Bay is where Todd Palin grew up and fishes.* All of the Palin children have names that are a little unusual. But she could still be a NASCAR fan. If she isn't one, she ought to be. : )
