Q: I know a lot of people like it, but it is burning up so much precious gas and polluting the environment. If people are complaining about petroleum deficiencies, why is NASCAR still allowed?
A: The last time we banned something(prohibition) it created Nascar. What would banning Nascar create? I live in St. Louis. It's the 13th largest city in the U.S. Based on an average of 25 MPG, we burn 2,880,000 gallons EVERY DAY which is 120,000 gallons an hour. Nascar uses around 300,000 gallons per year. That means my city alone uses enough gasoline to fuel 1 full Nascar season worth of gas approximately every single 2.5 hour's of every day!....or....1 race every 4.16 minutes!...of every day! I'm only talking about citizens in cars and trucks. This doesn't include train's, construction equipment, countless flights out of Lambert airport etc. etc. etc. The numbers are just so miniscule to the rest of the world, it's literally 1 drop in the ocean. As far as pollution, same thing. Auto racing is exempt from the 'Clean Air Act of 1979' for a reason.
