Q: Since reliability is being forced on the teams with penalties for changing engines and gearboxes. This does not benefit the lower teams and punishes the top teams. Should they give a point just for finishing (and 2 for Webber for the surprise factor) ? PS team not driver point
A: Yes, good question! I think it would make for a better difference between the Drivers Championship and Manufacturer's Championship. Right now, it's unspeakably boring that both the team and the driver always end up getting the championship at the same time. Changing the point structure for the manufacturer's championship would inevitably give the teams added incentive to build more reliable cars. The only downside I can see to this is a selfish one for me....I'm really enjoying this season for the attrition rate...It really has levelled the playing field and made it possible for perennial backmarkers to get a fairer shot at some points....If everyone had 100% reliable cars, they'd never get any points. Cars breaking down makes the season more fun, imho.
